MARINE ELECTRICIAN/AUXILIARY SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN /Job # M111
- Seeking persons with the ability to maintain and repair electrical
power generating and distribution systems; voltage regulators, engine
governors, and equipment; machinery monitoring and remote control
systems; power, control, and display systems of shipboard equipment,
and DC propulsion generators, motors, and control circuits.
- Duties include shipboard inspections and repairs related to marine
electrical and mechanical systems onboard naval or commercial vessels.
May supervise and coordinate teams of various trades to accomplish
a total project. Under minimal supervision, performs assignments
that are not completely standardized or prescribed. Selects or adapts
standard procedures and/or equipment. Performs recurring work independently.
Constructs components, sub-units, or simple models or adapts standard
equipment. Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions. Conducts various
tests or experiments that may require minor modifications in test
setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement;
selects, and set up. Additionally, candidate must be able to operate
standard test equipment and record test data. Extracts and compiles
variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports,
etc.; processes data, identifies errors or inconsistencies; selects
methods of data presentation.
- Must have the ability to work in shipboard environment. Able to
lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight
requirements will be determined by the specific job. Able to work
on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments,
shipboard, shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined
spaces. Able to perform other duties as required. Duties may involve
high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or
over the sides of vessels, and riding ships at sea.
- Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United
States.
- Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics,
ability to recognize problems through troubleshooting and ability
to find a solution. Candidate will have the ability to determine
kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Analyze needs and
product requirements. Ability to provide high level customer service.
- High school or equivalent and appropriate Trade School or related
Armed Forces school + 4 years related experience OR 8 year’s related
experience.
- Position requires 2 years supervisory experience and ability to
communicate verbally and in writing with customers.
- Experience performing shipboard Propulsion and Auxiliary systems
mechanical maintenance a big plus.
